Role summary

Carry out dental treatment in line with the current theory and practice and in accordance with the GDC’s ethical guidance under reasonable directions from the practice owner and perform such other tasks as the practice owner shall reasonably request.

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • provide high quality dental treatment in line with current theory and the GDC’s ‘Scope of Practice’ while treating patients with empathy and understanding;
  • dental treatment includes:
    • diagnosing disease;
    • preparing comprehensive treatment plans;
    • prescribing and providing endodontic treatment on adult teeth, fixed and removable prostheses, crowns, bridges, veneers, cosmetic dentistry and medicines;
    • carrying out oral and periodontal surgery;
    • providing oral health advice and care;
    • extracting permanent teeth;
    • provide conscious sedation and carry out treatment on patients who are under general anaesthesia;
    • prescribe and interpret radiographs;
  • maintain the required professional registration, indemnity and insurance;
  • manage own programme of continuing professional development to maintain and improve own professional knowledge and competence and to meet GDC requirements;
  • follow all practice policies and procedures and maintain standards of infection prevention and control in line with current theory and practice;
  • establish, promote and maintain productive working relationships with all team members to provide high standards of care and service to all patients in line with practice policies and procedures;
  • liaise with the practice owner on all matters concerning administration, pay and service conditions;
  • supervise the assisting dental nurse in regard to clinical matters;
  • keep up-to-date with health and safety requirements and take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts and omissions at work;
  • recognise where supervision is necessary and appropriately refer difficult treatment, professional and clinical issues to a suitable practitioner if these are outside your sphere of knowledge and/or experience;
  • take part in the emergency rota as directed;
  • maintain good lines of communication with the practice team in the best interests of the patient;
  • obtain valid consent from patients before starting treatment, in line with the current guidelines and the practice policy;
  • ensure that all clinical dental notes are comprehensive, contemporaneous and complete and are available for inspection at the premises at any time;
  • keep up-to-date with and practice in line with current NHS (where appropriate) and GDC regulations as well as with the guidance from the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners and NICE;
  • attend practice meetings and training sessions when requested;
  • observe correct professional behaviour and promote a positive image of the profession and the practice at all times;
  • keep confidential all patient, business and practice information;
  • work actively with the practice owner to develop the practice and implement the business plan.

 

Skills, qualifications and experience

  • good communication skills, hardworking, team player
  • Dental qualification essential
  • 2 years post qualification
  • Must be UK/ EU qualified or if overseas you must have completed your ORE or LDS
  • Must be registered with the GDC
  • Must hold your own indemnity
  • Must have a good command of the English language, if  overseas candidate you required to hold an academic IELTS that meets the below requirements :
    • Be no more than 2 years old
    • Show a minimum overall band score of 7.0
    • Show no score lower than 6.5 in any section
